FRESH APPLE POUND CAKE (A FALL FAVORITE)

Mix well:
2 cups sugar
1 ½ cup liquid Crisco
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Add, beating well:
3 cups all purpose flour (sifted)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
Stir in: 3 cups diced apples
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 cup coconut (optional)
Bake in a greased and floured tube pan for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
May be glazed with:
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup cream or evaporated milk
1 stick butter or margarine
Cook 2 ½ minutes, stirring constantly, and pour over cake while both are warm.
